Plucked from the middle of his new EP, Very Alone, Zaia has dropped one of his finest offerings yet, in the form of ‘My Own Way’. Toeing the line between hip-hop, R&B and funk, the EP itself is a treat from start to finish. Track six is a built on a thick bassline and a restrained drum pattern, with Zaia’s vocal taking centre stage. He alternates between straight-up rap and melodic moments of sweet falsetto that further the impact of his unique delivery. Obviously, Very Alone as a title has a particular poignancy in the current era, but the innovative music found within the release has a power of its own. - Dan Peeke
